Fingercuffs

There's a black ring 'round the edge of my island
A black ribbon of iron, like Leviathan's crown
There's a black ring 'round the tip of my tongue
A black ring 'round my ankle
A black ring that borders the sun
A black ring that sleeps in my pillow.

And I reek of smoke and iron
As my days do not flow
As my days must be forged.

There's a black ring 'round my finger
A black band of forget-me-not
And the work of my hands
Is ever bound to its weight.

It sits there ungrinding and loose
Invisible in its unlight
But it chokes my dreams to reminders
Of alarms, clocks and waking.

Like a hard iron pet-worm or snake
It whispers midst my Eden
Words that rival your own
"I will always be with you"
And the words taste like iron
The words taste like blood
And I so hope your soft touch
Is sharp enough to sever my finger.

A moment of.

-Deep under the scars
The words will find you
Under the sleeping sinews
They will drive
-Deep under the iron smiles
The words will find you
Under the hall of voices
They will pool
-Deep under the sword
The words will find you
Where the hilt is still human
They will pour
-Deep under your cloth
The words will find you
Right where the cross is nailed
They will burrow
-Under the gold of your cheap hearts
The words will find you
And in the empty treasure vaults
They'll make their nest
-Deep in the eyes of children
The words will find you
And in balloons and on the bicycles
They'll play
-Deep under your dreams
The words will find you
And in the cotton hours
They will lull you
-Under the muscle and the bone
The words will find you
And with each flushing of your blood
They'll lead the flood
-Deep under your throne
The words will find you
And on your days of glory
They'll be silence
-Deep under your hopes
The words will find you
And when you march
They'll wait
Until one day, deep under every loss
Their foreign sister becomes song
A word to draw all words like poison
One lashing sound
One call to sunsets
And all the words that ever found you
Shall burn their answer through
And deep under your everything
You'll look for words

Yet in her light
All words will fail you.

Tread like the sunset.

Πρώτος άνδρας: Τι έχει εκεί απ' όπου έρχεσαι;
Δεύτερος άνδρας: Γιατί αναρωτιέσαι;

Πρώτος άνδρας: Περίμενε, δε θες να ξέρεις τι έχει εκεί απ' όπου έρχομαι;
Πρώτος άνδρας: Γιατί όχι;
Δεύτερος άνδρας: Τι κακό υπάρχει που δε μπορεί να μου συμβεί;
