Sketching Directions.

Two hundred centuries -one name
From beneath the city comes the hum
The roads are calling again
Dreams and mirages, the memories
Trails of absolution in the nightsky
Iron angels with economy seats
I can't wait to get out.

There's a city, somewhere
And its name is Bratislava
Pretty girls and old cell mates
Cheap cigarettes, block apartments
A castle on top of a hill
And I can't wait to visit again.

There's a city, somewhere
An eternal city called Rome
Glory flows down the sidewalk
Where the spilled cappuccinos
Stain designer shoes of hearty folk
And I can't wait to laugh there again.

There's a city, somewhere
People call it Paris
A cathedral, a river
A racial blur and a white hill
Funny accents and coffee
And I can't wait to be there.

Two hundred centuries -one failure
Four million houses can't make a home
But there's a city, somewhere
And its name is Vienna
Where the people remember a dance
Where the bakeries smell in the morning
And a man without name works the tap.

There's a city, somewhere
And its name is Prague
Inexpensive high heels
Inexpressive blond thrills
A hangover gone medieval
And I can't wait for the next.

There's a city somewhere
The folks call Budapest
A spine of steel, a smell of sex
Where my own continent ends
And the intimate strangers await
For me, just for one more time.

Two hundred centuries -one life
Four million hearts can't make a friend
But there's a city, somewhere
And its name is Amsterdam
Where God and Devil drink together
On a cloud blown by hookahs and bongs
And I can't wait to rejoin them.

There's a city somewhere
And its name is Bucharest
One more red castle to fall
Where the people won't stay
And the people won't go
And yet still, I can't wait.

There's a city somewhere
And it's name is Riga
Where the snow falls majestic
And it smells of absinthe and wool
Where the tongue is hard
And the beds are soft
For my body to dent again.

Two hundred centuries -one airport
Four million minds can't make an excuse
But there's a city, somewhere
And its name is Berlin
Where history heaves the sunlight
And the air smells of cycles and change
And I'll always be there again.

There's a city somewhere
And its name is Lisbon
Where the havens hail the black sea
And the stray cats prey on caught fish
Where the winding roads lead up the castles
I will be with my heart still in place.

There's a city somewhere
And it's name is Seville
It is brown and it looks like blood
Music plays on the streets
And the dusty roads jingle
As they'll do when I walk them again.

Two hundred centuries -one chain
Four million reasons can't make a cause
But there's a city, somewhere
And its name is Copenhagen
Where there's nothing for most
But pretty old buildings
And petty gray rain
Yet it tears me apart
Every day I'm not there.

Two hundred centuries -one mother
Four million tumors can't make a disease
For there's a city, somewhere
And its name has always been Athens
Where the blankets smell of teargas
And the water tastes like despair
The central piece always falls loose
But of all harms and all evils
This succubus city
Is what I can't quit inflicting on me.
