The Sandbox.

I close my eyes and watch the fires
Soft and dim and hungry
A wall of snakes that yearns for snow
Creatures of rage more tame than angry

A wall of snakes that yearns for snow
 A wildfire season turning slow.

I close my eyes and think of you
Soft and dim and battered
A bed of longing for ever more
Soft feathers burnt and steel wings shattered

A bed of longing for ever more
 Another war within a war.

I close my eyes and my heart races
Loud and hard and wild
Before the sun comes crashing down
Before the sinking world has smiled

Before the sun comes crashing down
I'll sing a song for you
And drown.

I close my eyes and curse the waves
Soft and warm and calling
A place to hide my life within
The earth afar, my body lolling

A place to hide my life within
Letting me out for one last sin.
