The burning of Sodom.

We will never go back, we can never go back
to the beautiful -the beautiful endings
the glorious death
and the ribbons of smoke ascending
We will never go back to the burning fields
where breaths were rancid midst the blistering flowers
and blue was the enemy colour
We will never want to go back to the oceans of razors
and the seas of our spit, where the melting point of idols
was so far below
our average breath temperature
still cold years -youths- ago.

Never, never return
don't stamp your lungs with the sign of loss
never, never return
for our shame is our pride now
and this cross
is our harvest
that took much hurt to be made
never, never return
don't look back, they said salt
not alabaster, or porcelain, or jade.

Never live to look back at beautiful Sodom
to the beautiful death we're deprived of forever.
To the green seas of flowers and the blue skies of light
with cool winds and bird singing
we will carry the mark
and our hearts will beat paused
for the silenced forevers
and all reasoning caused.

We will carry the mark once carved on our shoulders
when told to turn our back on many deaths
when told to either save ourselves or witness
the day the sky spat fire and embers.
Where we are strangers and odd and alone
we will carry that mark -knowing no one remembers.
